LO2 Distinction Criteria

Yorkshire lasses follows the genre of a soap opera because it uses a shot reverse shot editing technique. This makes is to the audience can see the conversation from each character. This also shows their facial expressions and body language. This is very common in shows like Coronation Street and Eastenders. The show also follows the genre with its camera angles, the show uses close ups to show the characters facial expressions. This is very common in soap operas because when something dramatic happens the camera will show a close up of the characters reaction. We have tried to pastiche this technique in our own work. For mise en scène we have put a dark filter on some scenes to connote that those events are in the past. Many other soap operas edit the footage to connote that it was in the past. Another convention of the genre is lighting. A lot of soap operas have natural lighting. So when making the show we did have to use the soft boxes because there wasn’t enough natural light. We successfully gave the illusion of natural light.
